Student started their Resumes today, and objectives happened to be the biggest questions. The best advice I can give is to either give a non specific objective or after finding the job you want to apply for to fix your objective to match that job. The other option would be to simply not put an objective on your Resume. Remember there is NO right answer.

WORK PORTFOLIO Then read the article. Give me three things that you learned from reading the article, and three different things you found very interesting about the article. Finally tell me why you think this article is important to you now and in the future. For you student comments - respond to what they learned or what they found interesting and add comments that will help them improve their learning on work portfolio. The students have been working on a work portfolio for a Super Hero. The entire portfolio is to be turned in by Tuesday so that I can staple to the wall. Then I will be inviting staff members in to pick a Super Hero to hire. The Super Hero that gets hired will earn their students 15 extra credit points. The students have until Tuesday to make sure that their Super Hero has the best Work Portfolio ever.
Best of Luck students and Super Heroes. To see if you are reading and capable of following directions.
Word of the Day - Fictitious Comment on the blog by 8:00am on Monday May 2nd. A) log in B) write what fictitious means to you C) write a sentence using the word To check to see if you read everything - post your comment with the name of your Super Hero and nothing else. All this Super Hero work, where are we going with it. I am using it to help you think outside the box and develop an understanding of what you are going to do for yourself. We will develop a work portfolio for ourselves starting next Tuesday and turn in the full Portfolio on Tuesday the 10th.
If you are wondering why are we doing this be sure to check out the WHY are we doing this on the Business Communication Files page. You will be given a handout in class on Monday called "Bad Listening Habits" you can also find it in down loadable form under the Business Communication Files. You need to read the article about bad listening habits and listening actively. Then on the 2nd page in the gray box are instructions for Exercise 3. The six points they are referring to are "Criticizing the Speaker", "Interrupting the Speaker"...
For your post type the 6 habits and then type either yes, no, or sometimes next to it. Finally write a 100-200 word evaluation of your responses including what you could change and how. Responses to other students - you only need to respond to one other student and your response need to reflective on an experience where that student has listened or not listened to you. I want details on this and good thought. REMINDER - some of you are NOT practicing good communication skills because of your lack of effort on DQs. You are required to proofread your work, spell check it, and answer all the questions not just some. I will give only 8 points to you if you have spelling errors in your posts, that includes capitalization of words. We have written, evaluated, and will be revising our Career Reports.
What is one thing that you learned while reading other students reports? What will you or did you change about your report from other student comments? Has writing the report helped you decide what you want to do in the future? If you could change the assignment in one way how would you change it? When you post comments for other students - post for those that you read a report on and give them advice or comments in regards to their reports. After last weeks DQ and reading everyone's opinion on DQing I am glad to hear that most of you find worth in the DQ. You don't all like them but the majority of you agree that we should continue to do them. Some of you simple want them for the easy points they provide that have helped your grades. Others of you hate them because of the fact they have hurt your grade. Some of you are learning and using the DQ as a place to express yourself and improve your communication and typing skills. We may have some slight variations of the DQ, but for the most part the DQ will remain the same and students who didn't even complete a response last week DO NOT ever complain because you were given a chance to be heard but didn't take it.
DQ's will still be weekly, will still be mandatory, will be graded a little harder on your efforts, and will now be based upon articles that are to be read from a handout in class on Monday. The week 10 DQ has already been posted and if you are a head of things you can complete during Spring Break. You will continue to server LD for not posted DQ's but now you will have to write them instead of typing them during that time. Finally for those of you without Internet you will be given 5 min at the end of the period on Friday for DQing purposes if you want to use it. We are working on career research, but do you really know what you want to be when you "grow up"? Maybe you do, or maybe you don't either way you want to find the job that fits you and makes you happy. We may like money, but money will not buy the most important thing in life HAPPINESS. So when you select a career you want to pick one that you will wake up in the morning and say "I am glad I am going to work," not one having you say "I hate going to work I wish I had a different job." With that in mind I want you to think outside the box and do a little self-searching to help identify careers you might be good at.
Click on this link Career Searching and click on “Job Discovery Wizard” under “Or Choose One of Our Other Tests:” When you have to complete information about yourself only fill in the required fields and feel free to use the @psd.wednet.edu e-mail we use on my website. Take the test and look at your results. Provide a reflection of your results by answering questions about the following: What careers did you see that were of interest to you? What careers did you see that you would never want to do? Did your ideal career show up on the list, why or why not? Why do you think that the careers listed are there? Why do you think what you like to do and are good at doing reflect on careers you should pick? Add anything else you saw about your results? YOU DO NEED TO WRITE COMMENTS TO TWO DIFFERENT STUDENTS - THESE COMMENTS CAN PERTAIN TO WHAT YOU THINK THEY WOULD BE GOOD AT IN A CAREER OR EVEN COMMENTS THAT EXPLAIN WHY YOU THINK THEY WOULD BE GOOD AT THE CAREER THEY PICKED. |
